Pathway to Stop Diabetes

Current Opportunities
Pathway will support innovative basic, clinical, translational, epidemiological, behavioral, or health services research relevant to any diabetes type, diabetes-related disease state, or diabetes complication. The Association seeks exceptional candidates from a broad range of disciplines, including medicine, biology, chemistry, engineering, physics, and mathematics. 

The prestigious Pathway awards are available by institutional nomination only.




Diabetes Research Career Initiator (INI)
Status:
Currently accepting applications
Application Deadline:
August 16, 2013 for January 2014 funding
Award Description:
This two-phased award is designed to support the transition from mentored training to independent research faculty
Eligibility:
Eligible applicants must currently be in research training positions (post-doctoral fellow, research fellowship) and have no more than seven years of training following terminal doctoral degree. 

Candidates will be identified through institutional nomination; applications will be accepted only from individuals with the appropriate institution support.
Support:
Awards provide two distinct phases of research support. Phase 1 provides up to two years of support for mentored training at a maximum of $100,000 per year (including 10% indirect costs). Phase 2 provides up to five years of support for independent research at a maximum of $325,000 per year (including 30% indirect costs).

Combined support for Phase 1 and Phase 2 can total up to $1,625,000.

Diabetes Research Accelerator (ACC)

Award Description:
Awards are designed to support exceptional early-career researchers who have distinguished themselves as promising investigators and are in the beginning stages of establishing successful, independent diabetes research programs; and talented established investigators in fields other than diabetes who are interested in applying their skills and expertise to diabetes research.
Eligibility:
Awards are available to individuals with established records of independent productivity in research, in two distinct categories:

  • Early Investigator: Early-career diabetes investigators proposing innovative and ambitious diabetes-related research programs. Applicants must hold faculty positions and have demonstrated independent productivity in diabetes research. Applicants may currently hold independent NIH funding (K or R awards, including an initial R01) but must not have applied for, or received, an R01 renewal or a second R01 award.
  • Established Investigator New to Diabetes Research: Established investigators with exceptional productivity in fields other than diabetes research who would like to apply their expertise to innovative diabetes-related research topics. Applicants must hold faculty positions and have demonstrated independent productivity. Applicants cannot have previously received national grant support in diabetes research.
Candidates will be identified through institutional nomination; applications will be accepted only from individuals with the appropriate institution support.
Support:
Awards provide five years of research support at a maximum of $325,000 per year 
(including 30% indirect costs), for a total of $1,625,000.
