The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announces the availability of (FY) 2013 funds to implement FOA DP13-1306, Sleep and Sleep Disorders. The purpose of the FOA is to improve sleep health awareness in general population, improve provider knowledge about sleep health, expand the involvement of CDC in healthy sleep promotion and sleep disorder prevention programs, as well as collaborations to improve education and awareness about sleep hygiene. Sleep and sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea and insomnia are increasingly recognized as vital to a wide variety of public health-related and chronic disease concerns, including obesity, hypertension, cancer, and mental health. This program addresses the “Healthy People 2020” focus area of Sleep Health, which includes objectives related to medical evaluation of obstructive sleep apnea, vehicular crashes due to drowsy driving, and getting sufficient sleep.
