Funding Opportunity Purpose
The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to invite qualified basic science and clinical investigators to submit applications for research projects designed to advance the understanding of pathogenic mechanisms underlying systemic amyloidosis, to develop improved techniques (in particular those that are non-invasive) for the clinical detection and diagnosis of systemic amyloid diseases, to develop novel cellular and in vivo models with which to identify candidate therapeutic agents, and to evaluate the clinical efficacy of novel therapies designed to prevent, arrest, and (when possible) reverse the morbid and lethal progression of these diseases.
