New Page Limit Restrictions for Individual Career Development (K) applications
NIH will be enforcing the following new PHS Career Development Supplemental form attachment page limits immediately after the January 7 AIDS deadline:
· The Mentoring Plan attachment will be limited to 6 pages.
· The Statements by Mentor, Co-Mentors, Contributors attachment will be limited to 6 pages.
· The Description of Institutional Environment attachment will be limited to 1 page.
· The Commitment to Candidate's Research Career Development attachment is limited to 1 page.
To provide consistency between AIDS and non-AIDS K applications that could potentially be reviewed together, applicants to the January 7, 2011 AIDS deadline will get warnings if the above page limits are exceeded, but no corrective action will be needed. The warning message text will be adjusted next week to reflect this exception. The validations will be upgraded from warnings to errors and the message text readjusted for deadlines after January 7. Note that the new application guide posted November 24, 2010 already reflects the page limit changes. See NIH Guide Notice NOT-OD-11-027.
Check Commons Status - Don’t Rely on Email Notifications
Email can be unreliable. Email notifications sent by eRA can be blocked or caught by spam filters for various reasons. It is your responsibility to track your application through to a viewable application image in eRA Commons, correcting any errors encountered along the way. Remember… IF YOU CAN’T VIEW IT, WE CAN’T REVIEW IT!!
eRA Prepares for Discontinuation of the Error Correction Window
As of November 19, failing to provide a Contact Email address in box 5 of the SF424 (R&R) cover will no longer result in an eRA error. Since this field had been an NIH requirement, but is not marked as required on the federal-wide form, it has consistently been in the list of the top 5 errors encountered by applicants. Please continue to provide the information – we still really want it. If not provided, however, we will no longer stop the application from going forward. We will simply use the Authorized Organization Representative (AOR) email from box 19 in its place and provide a warning to let you know that we’ve done so.
We will be updating the message text for many of our business rule validations on December 16 in preparation for the discontinuation of the error correction window for deadlines on/after January 25. The text changes will provide greater clarity in describing the issue encountered and action required.
